Appearing last week at MotherTalk Chicago, and tonight at MotherTalk Los Angeles, is British author Rachel Johnson, talking about her novel Notting Hell. Tonight’s event will feature fresh-cut roses from host Laura Diamond’s garden, along with cucumber sandwiches and stilton cheese. Tally ho, as the invitation cheerfully ends.

Don’t miss Kim Moldofsky’s roundup of MotherTalk Chicago. For the dish on the food, her blog Scrambled Cake describes her decision to avoid the allure of those plentiful-and-cheap Costco guest platters for the allure of El Milagro chips, and salsa and guacamole from Evanston’s Tacos del Lago, and other locally-produced food.

She notes a recent Austin study that showed how we can invigorate our local economies by each of us redirecting $100 from national chain stores to local merchants.
